England & Stoke City Goalkeeper Jack Butland launches Reactions Goalkeeper Coaching for Boys & Girls

I’ve been playing in goal since I was about 12 years old Even then I still played the odd half up front, half in goal So it wasn’t till I was about 14 when I specifically said yes Goalkeeping is what I want to do and that
was it from then on. Up until I joined Birmingham there really wasn’t anything out there when
I was younger or none that I knew of anyway when I was
playing Sunday league with my friends Clevedon United so it wasn’t til I moved to a club in Bristol – The James Shaw Soccer Academy, I was only there for six months there was the odd, the occasional
goalie coach there present but again it wasn’t every day and it wasn’t regular so it was not until I joined Birmingham, signing at fourteen and getting involved, that was the only time really that I had a goalie coach. Since then it’s occurred to me how important it is and how much it’s helped me. I met Eddie a couple months back now at the Goalkeeping Conference at Saint George’s Park and what I’ve been impressed by is the angle that he has taken on it, the effort that he puts into the coaching, also the detail that he goes into. I think it’s very important. Goalkeeping
is not about one specific area, it’s about the whole range. It’s about all your footwork from your hand and your footwork, your positioning, your reaction saves, your recovering positions… There’s so much more to goalkeeping than just stopping shots and then you start adding distribution into
it so I think it is very important. And what Eddie’s doing is covering all with those points and that’s what you need to become the
good goalkeeper!
