How Chris Johnson And Lil Wayne Became Fast Friends | The Players’ Tribune

– Basically, I was just like,
“I want to meet Lil Wayne,” or whatever. And he was like, “All right, let me see what I can do.” I didn’t know that I was
gonna actually meet him, or actually even get
to go on the tour bus. Ever since like high school, he always been my favorite rapper. He was on Juvenile’s CD, “400 Degreez.” That was kinda like my
first time hearing him, and ever since then I always liked him and all his music. I still remember us having
arguments of who was better out of him and 50 Cent
when I was in high school. And he’s just, he way better – lyrically, all that. So basically, I ended up
being drafted by Tennessee. It was a concert he had in Nashville. We usually do it by position groups. We’ll all get a skybox
or whatever at the arena when all the concerts
come, so we did that. You know, that’s kinda like
a bonding thing for the team. So I went with the running back group. So it was me, LenDale
White, Quinton Ganther, Ahmard Hall. After the concert was over,
I asked the security guard, “Can you take me to meet
Lil Wayne?” or whatever. Basically, I was just like,
“I wanna meet Lil Wayne,” or whatever. And he was like, “All right, let me see what I can do.” And then he left probably
like for five, 10 minutes, and then he came back
and was like, “Come on.” So he walked us all to his tour bus. So when we get on the tour bus, it’s like when you hanging
out with your homeboys, like y’all might be somewhere and y’all just all
together sitting around, talking, hanging out. So it was like that …
like Mane was on the bus, Gudda Gudda was on the bus. So it was a lot of rappers
that I came up listening to and was fans of. Before I can say anything
to him or, “Hey, wassup? I’m Chris Johnson,” this and that. He’s like, “What’s up, boi? You on my fantasy team, Chris Johnson.” So when he did that it
was just surprising to me. It was like overwhelming,
like this is somebody like my favorite rapper of all time and he know who I am and
I’m on his fantasy team. ‘Cause I’m just expecting
like, “What’s up?” Meet him and, you know, leave. It was crazy because we ended
up exchanging phone numbers and stuff, and then after the concert we end up all going to the club together. So we had hung out all night. Honestly, after that like, you know, we became real, real good friends. And it’s like anytime we in the same city, we connect and go to
the club or just chill. Yeah, ever since that day
we became close friends.
