Real Corps Stories: Former NFL Player Ricardo Silva

Going from the NFL to
the teaching profession, I’ve always knew that I
wanted to be a teacher. – The role model I had
growing up, he’s a teacher. He’s a history teacher
and he is a principal. I saw the difference between having somebody that believes in you, a male role model that looks like me, but also stresses education and hopefully I can do the same thing
for these students here. It means a lot to me, being one of the few
African-American teachers. I’m doing my part in society to do my profession but also influence others. Through education, that’s the most stable and foundational tool that we can use in order to be successful. We speak about bridging
the achievement gap, and I think that this is
the best way to do it. What about teaching itself
that spoke to me the loudest is like the influence that I can have on someone’s life. (light jazz music)
