What UK Football Fans Need to Know for Home Games 2013!

Hello, I’m Chief Joe Monroe of the University
of Kentucky Police Department. We, just like all of the rest of you in the Big Blue Nation,
are very excited about the upcoming UK Football season. We wanted to take a few moments to
share with you some important information which will make your home visit to the UK
Football stadium more enjoyable this fall. Except in the cases of a few changes due to
campus construction, pre-game traffic flow will mirror that of seasons past. There’s
a lot of construction currently going on on campus, so be aware of those areas and any
traffic flow changes. Permit parking and respective routes into the permitted areas will mirror
that of seasons past. Fans are reminded to tailgate responsibly and respectfully of their
tailgate neighbors and the surrounding community. Parking on university green spaces not designated
for parking, city streets and/or other residential yards or grass spaces is not permitted. Please
help keep the Commonwealth Stadium complex and surrounding community clean by appropriately
disposing of recyclables, trash and other tailgating materials. Commonwealth Stadium
gates 4, 9 and 12 will be open two hours prior to kickoff. All other gates will open 1 and
a half hours prior to kickoff. The University of Kentucky is committed to our primary mission
of providing a safe and secure venue. Based in large part on recent changes in security
at large assembly events, the University of Kentucky is implementing a new bag policy
at Commonwealth Stadium this year. For security reasons, all items are subject to search.
Backpacks and large bags are prohibited. Guests may enter Commonwealth Stadium with one small
bag, no larger than 13.5 inches by 10 inches by 7 inches. Bags must fit within the sizing
bins located at all entrance gates. Arrive early and bring as few personal items as possible
into Commonwealth Stadium. Fans are encouraged to visit the UK Football Gameday website for
the latest information regarding what’s new in 2013, Twitter updates, guest assist, directions
and traffic, parking, shuttle information, RV information, maps, gameday traditions and
much more. Post-game traffic will mirror that of the seasons past. In coordination with
local authorities and services, gameday traffic officers will direct postgame vehicle traffic
in as efficient and safe manner as possible. Fans are reminded, given our ability to park
a large number of vehicles in close proximity to Commonwealth Stadium, safe post-game vehicle
egress can take some time when conducted in a safe and efficient manner. Please follow
directions of all your traffic officers. Thanks for being such great Wildcat Football fans.
And remember to get all the information you need for gameday by visiting the website on
your screen or by calling 859-257-2788. And we look forward to seeing you and your family
and Go CATS!
